Who are the Western Front Association?
The history of the association
Established in 1980 by noted military historian John Giles, the Association has grown over the years to more than 6,500 members worldwide.
The WFA has supported many remembrance and research projects, from the renovation of battlefield memorials, to organising care for the veterans, to re-establishing the 11 o'clock two-minute silence at the Cenotaph on 11 November each year.
Activities
The WFA is widely regarded as a first-class example of an historical interest group, with some of its members acting as subject-matter experts for TV, publications, tours, and education. In addition to the publication of our two excellent journals, we organise many different events for both the public and for our members. We also make available to members some exclusive products, services and discounts in our shopping activities, such as our renowned collection of trench maps. But the thing our members perhaps value highest is the comradeship and network of many others who share a common interest.
By joining the WFA at national level, not only do you get various publications, access to medal index cards and pension records but you can also attend any one of over 56 branches nationwide.

Publications
'Stand To', the WFA's prestige journal, is posted to all members three times a year. Its editorial policy increases our knowledge and understanding of the Great War. Articles include:
- previously unpublished accounts of the Great War
- original research and previously unpublished photographs
- regular features include book reviews and a correspondence column.
The Bulletin is also published three times a year. It carries reports on the Association's activities and future events. It gives details of meetings at national and local level.
As a WFA member, you will also have access to First World War pension records via ancestry.co.uk

The WOLVERHAMPTON BRANCH is a popular branch and over recent years has become more popular. We average 60 members and non members attending our meeting, we have a very popular website and each year run a battlefield visit.
Members range from the curious to the experts and the talks given each month are chosen in order to appeal to all interests. The branch can be seen attending local events and are here to inform the people of Wolverhampton and surrounding areas about the Great War. A donation of £3 per meeting is requested in order to pay for the room hire and funding the speakers.
Each meeting there is a raffle of mostly history related books / DVD etc and free beverages and cakes. It is all very informal and very friendly, we look forward to meeting you.
